Tenyidie Department besides classroom teachings encourages and mentor students with challenging and different activities for optimal learning. The motto of our department is “Ketsekezie” which means success, triumph, abundance, excellence and surpass.
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES FROM 2023 TO MAY 2024
On 8th March, 2023 three lady students and one assistant professor of Tenyidie department attended the International Women’s Day program in Kohima jointly organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Department of Women Resource Development, State Social Welfare Board and State Hub for Empowerment of Women Nagaland. Program was under the theme “Digital innovation and technology for Gender Equity”.
EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO MAIKHEL: EXPLORING THE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND ANCESTRAL ROOTS OF THE NAGAS
The department went for a field to Maikhel, Manipur on 1st April, 2023. One of the ancestral village of the Tenyimia tribe and Nagas, a place known for its rich cultural heritage. According to oral narratives Nagas in general make their exodus from someplace to the present homeland and this Maikhel is known as the “last dispersal place of Nagas” and “womb of the Nagas”. There exist certain concrete proof in the form of existing relics.
Sites visited
- Sacred Banyan tree- where the first lady slept under it and gave birth to three sons tiger, man and god.
- Sacred Wild pear tree – walking stick of our forefather which was planted at the place of dispersal now grown into a huge tree.
- Three stones megaliths – Farewell Stones of the three brothers God, Men and tiger.
- The Divine Weapon- burial ground of a strange and mysterious weapon.
- Tenyidie honour Students along with 3 teachers went to this educational trip.
19 STUDENTS AND 4 FACULTIES ATTEND 53 URA ACADEMY SEMINAR IN KOHIMA
19 students along with 4 faculties attended the 53 Ura Academy Seminar held from 24- 26 may at Kohima. A seminar specially for teachers and students conducted every year by Ura Academy a literal society which is also committed in working for preservation and perpetuation of Tenyimia culture. The main objective of this seminar is to keep tenyimia tradition alive the good attributes of the olden days and largely focusing on its language and literature. Students also participated in the choral competition.
EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO NAGA GATE AND PUBLIC RESTING SHED IN KOHIMA
On 5th September 2023 the department organized a one day educational trip to visit our ancestral traditional Naga gate (kharu) and Public resting shed( mechü pru) in Kohima. Our traditional gate is a shield of protection for the villagers from the enemy during war and a welcoming gate during peace times and an indication of the territory of village. Public resting shed (Mechü Pru) is a shelter place which have social and economic role in ancient days. 29 students 3 three faculties went to this trip.
INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY OBSERVED WITH SEMINAR ON THE POWER OF MOTHER TONGUE
The department of Tenyidie observed ‘International Mother Language Day’ under the theme “Mother tongue: The power of our thought” on 21st February, 2024 in the college auditorium. International mother language day is observed to recognised and promote linguistic cultural diversity and multi lingualism. Associate professor Kohima College Kohima Dr. Keduolhoulie Belho was the speaker. He talked on the importance of mother tongue highlighted on the origin of language and how language movement evoked and instilled the significance of mother tongue. Dr. Belho encourages students to learn and respect every language and be multilingual.38 students attended the seminar with three faculties of the department.
STUDY TRIP TO KHONOMA: EXPLORING NATURE AND TRADITION IN INDIA’S FIRST GREEN VILLAGE
The department went to a one day study trip to Khonoma a Western Angami village on 16 March 2024. 40 students along with three faculties, went for nature walk, viewed the beautiful landscapes, terrace cultivation, forts, morung, monoliths, traditional handicrafts etc. India’s first green village often described as ‘warrior village’. A model village of sustainable independence with nature. Our field trip for the day ends with a visit to Dzüleke, 10 kms from khonoma a scenic bowl-shaped valley encircled by hills rich in flora and fauna.
EXTENSION ACTIVITY ON PROSPECTS OF MOTHER TONGUE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
An extension activity was conducted on 24 April, 2024 by the department to Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School Kohima under the theme “Prospects of mother tongue in teaching and learning”. Sedevinuo Kire, Assistant Professor OCK gave talks basing on the theme the importance and advantages of mother tongue as a subject in studies and learning. Mother tongue in education and education in mother tongue its future prospects and the challenges one face while learning.
DEPARTMENTAL YEAR-END FAREWELL FOR OUTGOING B.A. 6TH SEMESTER STUDENTS
Departmental yearlong activities ends with a farewell programe for the outgoing B.A. 6th semester students on 24th April 2024 at the college premises.
