What is RED RIBBON CLUB (RRC)?
The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention programme for students in educational institutions. It is initiated and supported by the State AIDS Control Society and implemented through multi-sectoral collaboration. The programme will address the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of the youths in the interrelated areas of Voluntary Blood Donation, HIV & AIDS and sexuality, as demanded by their age, environment and lifestyle. The Red Ribbon Club will serve as a complementary and comprehensive prevention intervention to support and reinforce similar youth led initiatives.
AIM:
The RRC aims at harnessing the potential of the youth by equipping them with correct information on HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Support and Treatment. It also aims in building their capacities as peer educators in spreading messages on positive health behaviour in an enabling environment and increasing voluntary blood donation from among the youth.
OBJECTIVES:
- To reduce new HIV infection among youth by raising their risk perception through awareness on Sex, Sexuality and HIV & AIDS.
- To induce among the youth the spirit to help and support People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) thereby reducing stigma and discrimination against PLHWAs.
- To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation and team building.
- To promote voluntary non-remunerated blood donation among youth.
MISSION OF RED RIBBON CLUB:
Red Ribbon Club mission is to provide adequate knowledge and information among the youths to lead, support and increase awareness of the continuing impact of HIV/AIDS. Its aim is to nurture the young minds, to promote effective action and shared responsibility among the diverse populations in the common fight against the disease.
The students of the college are imparted awareness related to HIV/AIDS, drugs and alcohol addiction, blood donation and other related health issues through various programs by the college. The college students also participate in the trainings, orientation programmes, seminars, essay and quiz competition, postures, signature campaigns, rallies, skits, discussion and plays etc. organised by the Nagaland States AIDS Control Society.
RRC in Nagaland:
On the 3rd of August, 2006, under the initiative of the former Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri Shyamal Dutta, the Red Ribbon Club programme was launched in the state. This day marked a milestone in the continuing fight for HIV and AIDS. Currently, there are 77 existing Red Ribbon Clubs in various Colleges/Institutes throughout the state.

- Organizing various HIV related programmes, seminars and competitions
- Planning and implementing outreach activities for HIV awareness etc.
Some report on ‘Awareness programme on routes of HIV transmission’
Oriental college Kohima and District AIDS prevention and control unit Kohima organized an awareness programme on 7th December 2023 aimed at educating students about HIV/AIDS and promoting healthy lifestyle choices.
The objectives of the program was to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, promote safe and responsible behaviour among students and provided accurate information about HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention methods.
Report on Painting competition
Red Ribbon Club Oriental College organized a painting competition on the theme
“Aids Awareness: Prevention only, No Cure.” Was held at the College Auditorium on 23rd February at 11:40 am. The event aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and emphasize the importance of prevention measure.
Participants from each class showcased their artistic talents through thought-provoking paintings depicting the theme. The artworks were diverse in style, technique and interpretation, reflecting the individual perspectives on the issue.
The judging panel, comprising of the Two Assistant professor from Department of English Mrs. Akhrienuo Chietsii and Miss. Keneisenuo Kuotsu evaluated the entries based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and message clarity. After careful deliberation winners were selected and awarded cash prizes.
The First prize was bagged by Mr. Kevizayie Yhome of BA 6th semester, followed by Mr.AthronbaThur of Ba 2nd semester and the third prize was awarded to Mr. Uzhozo Neinu of B.com 6th semester.
Overall, the painting competition proved to be successful endeavour in fostering students’ engagement and spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, underscoring the significance of collective action in addressing public health challenges.
