The college is dedicated to creating a cultural environment in which discipline, moral and ethical principles, as well as academic success and skill development, are fostered regardless of creed, caste community, or social class.

To help our students develop holistically, we supplement classroom instruction with a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs. The college also provides an exclusive Life Skills and Personality Development (LSPD) course in conjunction with the regular syllabi.

Oriental College Skill Fest and Personality Development:

Our job is not to prepare students for something. Our job is to help students prepare themselves for everything”, with this concept in mind, Oriental College Kohima started Skill Development and Entrepreneurship programme from the year 2017. So, every year, Oriental College Kohima organizes Skill Fest offering training in various trades. The program was initiated to help the students achieve not only academic excellence but also to impart other vital skills to lead a healthy, successful, positive, responsible and enriching life and to empower the youth to be sustainable and productive without destroying our ever-depleting environment which is also one of the current burning issues to be addressed by all the stakeholders. The course was framed by the college and incorporated as an add-on curriculum empowering students through skill development and entrepreneurship.

The week-long Skill Development and Entrepreneurship program” Skill Fest” imparts training on different trades focusing on a theme. The 1st edition of Skill Fest had the following trades.

  1. Coffee plantation
  2. Piggery farming
  3. Fishery
  4. Entrepreneurship
  5. Floriculture
  6. Mushroom cultivation
  7. Food processing
  8. Handicrafts and carpentry
  9. Baking
  10. Painting and framing
  11. Dolls and ornamental making
  12. Knitting
  13. Electrical fittings.

Field trips are organized in the area of interest to provide firsthand information and knowledge through practical fieldwork to the participant.

As Skill Fest entered its 5th edition in 2023, it has added to the existing trades and has seen collaborations with Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) and Entrepreneurs Associates (EA).

The program has witnessed bolstering confidence in the skills provided in the personal life as well as in the social life.

It has created a sense of the importance of creativity and innovation among students.

It provided an opportunity to avail basic training in an interested field as well as to meet basic necessities.

The program has given a platform of availing with enthusiasm the personality development to the members in the trainings.

Daycare

The college has a daycare center, which was established on July 27, 2017, to provide teachers and non-teaching staff with the facility of keeping their children under good care during working hours inside the college campus, to work with peace of mind, better focus on their work, promote a healthy work-life balance, and access their children quickly in case of emergency. The college has a well-furnished room and a small play area for children. It has furniture and accessories, including toys, stationery, a bed area, and other necessary items.
