NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) MOTTO: “NOT ME BUT YOU”

Personality development of students through Community Service or Education through community Service.

The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) is an Indian government sponsored public service programme conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Popularly known as NSS the scheme was launched in the Gandhiji’s Centenary year 1969.

Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. The NSS is the voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities and at +2 levels working for the campus community linkage. The Cardinal principles of the NSS program is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in the community service and get the sense of involvement in the task of Nation building.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme NSS are:
1. Understand the community in which they work.
2. Understand themselves in relations to their community.
3. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
4. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
5. Develop capacities to meet emergencies and natural disaster and
6. Practice National Integration and Social harmony.

ANNUAL REPORT 2023

The NSS is the voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities and at +2 levels working for the campus community linkage. The various activities undertaken by the college NSS units during the year 2023 are as follows:

MEGA TREE PLANTATION
1.Programme on 26th July 2023 by the NSS Unit Oriental College called by the NSS Directorate. Four (4) teachers and ten (10) students took part.
2. The National Service Scheme NSS Unit Oriental College in Collaboration with The Royal Club Kohima conducted Cleanliness Drive on the WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 5th June 2023 covering (3.6km) from the College Campus till Razhii point where the teachers and the students alongside the Royal Club members cleaned the streets, drainage areas filled with waste etc. Promoting the initiative of REDUCE REUSE and RECYCLE. 236 students, 21 teachers and 14 Royal club members’ part take in the Cleanliness drive.
3. The National Service Scheme Unit Oriental College attended the NORTHEAST FESTIVALS 2023 held at the North Eastern Hills University Shillong from 19th to 23rd June 2023 with the theme CELEBRATE BONDINGS. Twelve (12) students along with one Programme officer from Oriental College represented the State of Nagaland and participated in various activities such as Cultural Exchange, debate, Panch Pram and other various activities conducted during the festivals.
4. The National Service Scheme observe the HYGIENE ANDENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS in the college campus by cleaning the surrounding and planting trees on 4th May 2023. Fourteen (14) students along with two Programme officers participated.
5. The National Service Scheme NSS Unit Oriental College organised a SPECIAL CAMPING at the adopted Village Chedema from 28th to 30th September 2023 by doing a Community Service and cleanliness drive with twenty seven (27) students and two Programme officers.
